Suzy Wilner: One Woman's Quest to Support Future Generations

Suzy WilnerFor Suzy Wilner, her connection to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta stems from her family's legacy of lifting up future generations. Born and raised in Atlanta, Suzy grew up with the influence of her parents, Walter and Frances, who were both survivors of The Holocaust and strongly believed in the importance of giving back to communities in need.

That desire to make a lasting impact led Suzy's parents to create The Walter and Frances Bunzl Family Foundation, Inc., which has generously supported many organizations in Georgia and beyond, including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta—a cause close to Suzy's heart.

"I have always been deeply impressed by how Children’s serves its patients," says Suzy. "The doctors and nurses are incredibly compassionate. They go above and beyond to make kids and their families feel comfortable and informed about their treatment plans."

Most recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Suzy realized she wanted to do more to support the health of children in Georgia. Additionally, Suzy's experience losing her brother to heart disease reminded her of the impact that specialized healthcare and lifesaving advancements in research can have on future generations. She immediately thought of Children’s and realized she had a unique opportunity to focus on the future of pediatric care by supporting the new North Druid Hills Campus.

"Children’s does amazing, lifesaving research in collaboration with local, leading research institutions," says Suzy. "Our kids are our future. They are the ones who will continue to lead society forward, so we need to prioritize medical advancements."

Suzy has passionately supported Children’s for almost two decades. Attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the Center for Advanced Pediatrics, participating in visits to our Egleston, Scottish Rite and Hughes Spalding hospital locations, and touring the Pediatric Research Unit are among her favorite memories.
